The seven pilots had to establish the show’s appeal to a white male audience, the only people who watch tv as far as FOX is concerned. Hence the whole backup singer thing. Once that stuff was out of the way they could really get into the sci fi.
Oh, you are definitely right. Season Two was much better in terms of the tech and social issues, beyond the stripper clothes and sexy plots.
